THE CONSPIRATOR
STARRING: James McAvoy, Robin Wright, Tom Wilkinson, Kevin Kline, Alexis Bledel, Evan Rachel Wood and Justin Long
DIRECTOR: Robert Redford
GENRE: Historical Drama
SYNOPSIS: A reluctant lawyer is tasked with representing Mary Surratt, the lone female co-conspirator charged in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.
RATING: PG-13
RUNNING TIME: 123 Mins
THE GOOD: Slow moving, but compelling… This film is only recommended for people with a lot of patience. James McAvoy (THE LAST STATION, THE LAST KING OF SCOTTLAND) and Robin Wright (FORREST GUMP) head a strong cast.
Robert Redford’s astute direction will leave you haunted. If you thought you knew the whole story, think again.
THE BAD: Unfortunately, the ending will leave you angry and depressed. It seems that we haven’t come too far in 200 years.
THE UGLY: Most people will ignore this film and that is a shame. It is a good history lesson; one that everyone should know.
MY SCORE: ***
