THE BOTTOM LINE: THE MECHANIC

THE BOTTOM LINE

MOVIE REVIEWS FOR FILM ENTHUSIASTS

BY HENRY DE LA ROSA

THE MECHANIC

STARRING:  Jason Statham, Ben Foster, Tony Goldwyn and Donald Sutherland

DIRECTOR:  Simon West

GENRE:  Action

SYNOPSIS:  A heartless hit man takes an apprentice under his wing.

RATING:  PG-13

RUNNING TIME:  93 Mins

THE GOOD:  Jason Statham (SNATCH, TRANSPORTER, CRANK and THE EXPENDABLES) continues to play the same character in every movie he appears in and that is OK because it works for him.

The same can be said of Ben Foster (X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, 3:10 TO YUMA, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT and PANDORUM).

Both of them are at the top of their game and they are a lethal combination here.

THE BAD:  Unfortunately, this remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson film of the same name seems to be stuck in the 70s: all action and no real story to engage you.

Why would someone bother to remake a B movie and do nothing to improve the script?  The plot holes left in undermine the film and make the action less credible.

Where is the integrity?

THE UGLY:   Obviously, someone was looking to make a fast buck and didn’t care about making a decent film.  And that is very sad, because no one likes to be played, and this film plays it audience.

MY SCORE:  **
